Fall Monastery Family Retreat, October 20

Please set aside Saturday, October 20, 2012 for a Saturday retreat for families with Archimandrite Demetrios Carellas. Fr. Demetrios will be speaking once again on:

"Come let us go to the Mountain of the Lord…" – the first part of a patristic journey into the Beatitudes.

9th Annual Greek Food Fest in Corvallis, October 13-14

Eat a day the Greek way! On Saturday, October 13 from 11am-7pm and Sunday, October 14 from 12pm-6pm St. Anne Orthodox Church will host the Mid-Valley’s ninth annual Greek Fest at historic Lewisburg Hall, 6000 NE Elliott Circle, Corvallis. The St. Anne Greek Fest is the only Greek Festival in the state outside of Portland. Proceeds from the event help pay for the renovation and maintenance of the historic Lewisburg Grange Hall.

Greek Fest will offer traditional Greek dinners, desserts, wine & spirits, crafts and live Greek music and dancing. “The Athenians”, a vocal and instrumental ensemble that regularly appears at the Touch of Athens restaurant in Vancouver will perform throughout the festival. The Greek Fest menu includes chicken souvlaki, braised lamb with carrots and potatoes, pasticcio, spanakopita, mousaka, stuffed grape-leaves and tsatsiki. Complete dinners served with Greek salad, rice pilaf, hummus and pita bread will be offered for $13.00 per adult ($10 for senior citizens)and $8 per child. A la carte, to-go items and Greek desserts will also be available, and there will be a separate “taverna” tent serving appetizers, Greek red wine, beer, ouzo and retsina. Desserts will include baklava, kourambiethes (butter cookies), melamakorona (honey cakes), Greek wedding cakes and paximathia (anise studded Greek biscotti).

Ancient Christianity gathers in Hammond, OR

The Mission of Holy Nativity (OCA), located in Hammond, Oregon near Astoria, will have its next service on Sunday, September 23 with 9 AM Matins and 10 AM Liturgy. Picnic to follow. Please bring a potluck dish to share, chairs, etc. and join us!

Characteristics of an Orthodox marriage lecture/seminar on September 23rd

Holy New Martyrs of Russia Orthodox Church is hosting a lecture/seminar by Fr. Timothy Pavlatos on the topic of Orthodox marriage on Sunday, September 23rd after the Liturgy.

Fr. Timothy Pavlatos was ordained to the priesthood in 1995 and has served parishes in Phoenix Arizona, Eugene Oregon, San Bernardino California and currently serves part-time at St. John the Baptist in Beaverton as well as the Greek Orthodox Mission Church in Salem.

He is a graduate of Wright State University with a Bachelors in Psychology, Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology with a Masters in Divinity, and Loyola University – Maryland with a Masters in Pastoral Counseling.

In addition to his priestly responsibilities, Fr. Timothy is a marriage and family therapist and maintains a private practice in Milwaukie where he provides counseling to individuals, couples and families.

He and Presvytera Victoria have nine children: Tatiana, Isaiah, Andreas, Gabriella, Jordana, Anysia, Anastasios, Azrael, and Evanthia.
