KLIROS Auditions, Sunday, July 6

KLIROS, Portland's semi-professional mixed chorus specializing in Orthodox liturgical music, will host auditions for new singers Sunday, July 6 at 6pm, St. Nicholas Church, 2210 SW Dolph Court, Portland, Oregon.

Singers should be adept at music reading and experienced in choral singing. Interested singers can contact Tracey Edson (Rdr. John), Director, at tryedson@aol.com / 503-421-0488 for more information.

Singers are joined by members of Capella Romana, as well as other professional singers.

KLIROS will be singing Great Vespers for the holy martyrs Probus, Tarachus & Adronichus, Saturday, October 11, 6pm at St. Nicholas with music composed by Tchaikovsky.  Ordinary service parts in Slavonic, propers in English.

Thank you for Jazzing It Up:  A big thank you to everyone who joined us on May 3rd at the ASA Gala! We had an awesome 20's themed time and raised serious money for the school and eventual new building! Also, a grateful thank you to all those friends and parishioners who helped prepare for the event and donated auction items.

New Teacher and Classroom:  We've hired a new teacher, raised funds to furnish the classroom, and our students are excited to start this fall. This new classroom allows for additional enrollment spots, so come learn about our second grade classroom!  Contact the office at 503-641-4600 or online at www.asapdx.org. We also have 2 openings for 3-yr-olds and 1 opening in K/1. Once these spots are taken, it will be waiting-list only for Montessori and the K/1 classroom!

Registration is now open for St. John’s Family Camp, August 17-22

Greetings to all in the midst of our Great Lent. Many of you have been waiting to hear about St. Johns Family Camp and we are pleased, with God's grace, to announce this years Family Camp will be held AUGUST 17-22 at Sky Camp, near Eugene Oregon, our previous location.  The theme this year is "Transfigured by the Glory of God!" This is a spiritual retreat for the whole family, where you can come and refresh you soul and get the best of both a retreat and a vacation!

  • Speakers: Professor Christopher Veniamin & author Klaus Kenneth
  • Youth Programs focused on the lives of the Orthodox Church’s beloved saints.
  • Prayer, nature, swimming, hiking, sports, inspiring talks and discussions!

It's been a wonderful tradition among Orthodox parishes in Portland area to celebrate Presanctified Liturgies and other services during Lent. This year, these pan-Orthodox services are as follows:

Saturday, March 8: Great Vespers at Holy Trinity (Greek) at 6pm

Wednesday, March 12: Presanctified Liturgy at Holy Trinity (Greek) at 6:30pm

Tuesday, March 25: Vesperal Divine Liturgy at Annunciation (OCA) at 6:30pm, for their patronal feast day

Wednesday, April 9: Presanctified Liturgy at St. Mary's (OCA, Romanian) at 6:30pm

Marriage Retreat, March 14-15

Please join us for a weekend of seminars aimed at helping both young and well seasoned couples strengthen their marriage, identify growth areas, and learn about the spiritual medicine the Orthodox Church offers to husbands and wives. We will also learn about unhealthy patterns couples often get stuck in, as well as acquire some tools to help couples stay in a strong communicative relationship.
