St. Anne Greek Food Fest in Corvallis, October 11-12, 2014

Eat a day the Greek way! On Saturday, October 11 from 11am-7pm and Sunday, October 12 from 12pm-6pm St. Anne Orthodox Church will host the Mid-Valley’s eleventh annual Greek Food Fest at historic Lewisburg Hall, 6000 NE Elliott Circle, Corvallis. The St. Anne Greek Fest has become a popular, family- friendly, mid-valley tradition and is one of only two Greek festivals in the state. Proceeds from the event help pay for the renovation and maintenance of the historic Lewisburg Grange Hall. This year a special diaper drive will also be held during the festival to assist needy families in Linn and Benton counties served by Family Tree Relief Nursery.

The St. Anne Greek Fest offers authentic Greek dinners, desserts, wine & spirits, crafts and live Greek music and dancing. “The Athenians”, a Portland-based Greek band featuring Maria George and Brett Pitner will perform both days. The menu includes pork souvlaki, braised lamb with carrots and potatoes, pasticcio, kifta kebabs, spanakopita, stuffed grape-leaves (dolmas) and Moroccan chicken. Complete dinners served with Greek salad, rice pilaf and pita bread will be offered for $12.00 for two entrees or $14 for three entrees. A la carte, to-go items and Greek desserts will also be available, and there will be a “taverna” in the tent serving appetizers, Greek red wine, beer, ouzo and retsina. Desserts will include baklava, kourambiethes (butter cookies), galatoboureko (custard-filled filo drizzled with honey syrup) and melamakorona (honey cakes).

Visitors are invited to tour the Grange Hall and the Orthodox Christian chapel located on the second floor. Tours will be held every hour on the half hour and will include an explanation of Orthodox iconography. There is no admission fee for any part of the festival and free event parking is available along Elliott Circle and at Mountain View Elementary School.

FamilyCamp2014group

The St. John the Wonderworker Family Camp (FB) is a camping retreat for Orthodox Christian families hosted by St. John Maximovitch Serbian Orthodox Church in Eugene, Oregon with the blessing of His Grace MAXIM.

Located at the Kiwanis' Sky Camp on the shores of Fall Creek Lake, Oregon, it offers the opportunity to retreat from the world and set aside time for prayer, fellowship, classes, and other ways of building the Faith for those who may not have the resources or time to travel to a monastery or other place of pilgrimage. World-class speakers, teachers and helpers experienced with working with children contribute to a full experience of the Church in a beautiful natural setting.

Every day we gather together to pray Matins, Vespers, and Compline and we always have a mid-week Divine Liturgy.

Family camp is a fun place for children of all ages. Children, teens and adults will have age appropriate seminars, activities and crafts in an environment that will build their understanding and appreciation of the Orthodox faith.

See you there next year!

Christ in the Wilderness retreat, October 3-5

The Orthodox Fellowship of the Transfiguration will host a weekend “Christ in the Wilderness” retreat October 3-5, 2014 (Friday eve-Sunday afternoon) at Suttle Lake Camp, 14 miles west of Sisters, Oregon.

You are invited to participate!

The Christ in the Wilderness Program is an opportunity to explore the rich Patristic tradition of learning about God through Creation. We will assemble in the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains, easily in reach of Portland and Eugene, to read, contemplate, experience and discuss what the Fathers and Saints of the Church have handed down to us as guiding principles for a deeper understanding and love for God and Nature. The hope is that this experience will result in sound Christian ecological stewardship in our homes and parishes as the manifestation of a right relationship to Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in Creation.

For further information and registration please contact Fr. Athanasius Shaw (Church of the Annunciation): cell: 360-701-1465 or email frathanasius61@gmail.com
